In addition, He Ye raises the pure and strengthens the spleen, not only helping to eliminate stagnant food but also helping to strengthen the spleen and tonify the qi. He Ye also disperses phlegm and dampness. Tu Bie Chong is included in this formula because many overweight individuals also have blood stasis. Thus, dampness and phlegm obstruct the movement and free flow of the blood as well as the qi that moves the blood. Tu Bei Chong activates the blood and dispels stasis. He Shou Wu is included in the formula because it nourishes the liver and kidney. By nourishing the kidney essence, it promotes the interdependence between innate qi and acquired qi. Wu Long Cha (Oolong tea) was included in this formula because it strengthens the spleen, transforms phlegm, eliminates stagnation, and disinhibits dampness (promotes urination).
