Bai Zhu and Fu Ling strengthen the spleen and eliminate dampness, promote transportation and transformation, strengthening the very source of production of qi and blood. Bai Zhu dries dampness, while Fu Ling gently transforms it. Gan Cao (toasted) tonifies the qi and the center, also relaxing liver tension. Sheng Jiang harmonizes the center and eliminates dampness, and Bo He, in small amounts, assists Chai Hu in dispersing and resolving liver qi stagnation.
